Local students’ art hits the walls of Kelowna Art Gallery



Art in Action: Kaleidoscope

March 14 to June 21, 2026


March 19, 2026 – Kelowna, BC: From the back of the classroom to the spotlight of a professional gallery, the work of local students is taking center stage once again. This year, the Kelowna Art Gallery and Central Okanagan Public Schools celebrate a major milestone: 40 years of bringing student masterpieces out into the gaze of the public in the annual Art in Action exhibition.



“Reaching the 40th anniversary of this partnership is a profound testament to the creative spirit thriving within our community's schools,” says Nataley Nagy, Executive Director at the Kelowna Art Gallery. “Providing a professional platform for these young artists not only validates their hard work but allows the entire region to witness the incredible depth of talent and the unique perspectives held by our local youth.”



Young artists from across the Central Okanagan in Grades 9 to 12 were invited to participate in this landmark edition of the exhibition. Nearly 100 individual artworks have been assembled, creating a vibrant "kaleidoscope" of perspectives for visitors to explore.



The theme, Kaleidoscope, was chosen as it symbolizes change, transformation, and the power of perspective. Much like the optical instrument itself, the exhibition represents how life’s experiences, both triumphs and challenges, can be reframed to create new patterns and meanings. It serves as a visual metaphor for the interconnectedness of individual student voices coming together to create a diverse and complex whole.



An Exhibition Reception will be held on Friday, April 10, 2026, from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at the Kelowna Art Gallery. Many of the artists will be in attendance. It is free and open for the public to attend.



Art in Action: Kaleidoscope runs until June 21, 2026, in the Thomas A. Budd Gallery at the Kelowna Art Gallery.
