The Pitt Meadows Heritage and Museum Society (PMHMS) is seeking an
organized, committed, energetic and culturally/community aware person to
fill the position of Museum Curator/Manager.As such, the successful
applicant will oversee all facets of the operations of the two sites of
a small community museum and archives.
Located in two historic buildings, one owned by the City of Pitt
Meadows, the other by the Museum Society, both sites of the Museum are
operated by the PMHMS, a non-profit and registered charity.
Reporting to the PMHMS Board and its committees, responsibilities
include: collections management; administrative and financial
management; human resource and volunteer management; public programs
development and implementation; exhibit development; external relations
and community engagement; social media and website management; grant
writing and implementation; facility management and maintenance; other
assigned duties.
*Purpose of the Position:*
To manage all facets of the operation of the Museum and Museum Society
to ensure the continued success of the Pitt Meadows Museum and Archives
operation.
*Duties and Responsibilities:*
1.To ensure the Museum and Museum Society meet the terms and conditions
set out in the Fee for Service and Lease agreement with the City of Pitt
Meadows are met.
2.To oversee the administrative and financial functions of the Museum
and Society, including staying current with all government regulations
that relate.
3.To oversee human resources including:
a.Recruiting, hiring, training and supervising regular, casual and
seasonal staff.
b.Recruiting, hiring, training and supervising of volunteer staff.
4.To write grant applications and manage grant funds.
5.To provide administrative services to the Society’s Board of Directors.
6.To communicate positively and effectively with staff, volunteers, the
visiting public and researchers, and external groups including all
levels of government.
7.To manage all aspects of the historical collections at the Museum sites.
8.To oversee:exhibit development; program development and execution;
community outreach and engagement; public open hours; Museum social
media, website, newsletter; membership program; buildings maintenance.
9.Other duties as assigned.
*Qualifications:*
·Experience working in a community museum and archives or other cultural
facility/heritage site.
·University or college graduation in a related discipline, an equivalent
combination of education and experience may be considered.
·Experience with collections management.
·Some experience with or knowledge of industrial heritage collections is
an asset.
·Public and school programming experience is an asset.
·Proficient in Microsoft Office including, Word, Excel, Publisher and
Access.
·Developed skills with information technology and social media.
·Flexibility to learn other programs including Photoshop and SAGE.
·Possess excellent organizational skills.
·Possess well developed communication skills.**
