I would respectfully like to add to the MoV’s filming guidelines; to wit:
SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS FOR FILM CREWS AND COMMERCIAL
PHOTOGRAPHERS WORKING AT THE VANCOUVER MUSEUM
5. High light levels and overheating are major sources of danger to artifacts. Top
quality lights, 650 watts maximum, are to be used and must be provided with
gel filters such as 3114 Rosco UV Filters to remove maximum amount of
ultraviolet wavelengths.
Neither the lamp [light bulb] wattage [energy consumption] nor the lumen [light output] are as great a determinant as lux [illuminance] level on the subject [artifact, specimen, etc.]. UV radiation [a well as heat generation] varies with the light source [tungsten, halogen, LED, fluorescent, etc.] and requires different types of mediation. In all cases, the institution curator or conservation officer should be involved to ascertain the allowable light level and duration [lux hours] and of UV exposure to guide the film crew.
Hope this helps.
Regards;
Chris Au
