We've had two movie production crews here this summer. They were both
great to work with. We've learned two things - (1) they will ask for more
and more space, artifacts, and time as they settle into production (2) they
keep their word about putting things back the way they found them.
Depending on how long the pre-production, production and post-production
is, the amount of parking they will require can be daunting. We had 85
personal vehicles plus 20+ support vehicles such as food trucks, washrooms,
electrical service, production, sound, set decoration for 10 days.
Our School House was emptied and everything was stored in large trucks
during production. They painted, removed curtains, removed artifacts,
etc. Everything was returned to the same place, repainted the original
colour, etc. during post-production clean-up. A window was broken and they
fixed it without question.
Overall, it was a great experience and a cash windfall. The location scout
told us what to charge and there was never a problem with payment.
I have heard that you should get at least some funds up front to protect
your revenue but that depends on the production company's reputation.
