ROEDDE HOUSE MUSEUM JOB POSTING

 

Position: Museum Manager (temporary - maternity leave)

Location: Roedde House Museum, Vancouver, BC
Tentative Start Date: Tuesday, July 4th, 2023

 

Organization Overview and Mission:

Roedde House Museum is a fully restored Victorian home in the heart of Vancouver’s West End. The museum is run by Roedde House Preservation Society, a charitable non-profit organization dedicated to maintaining Roedde House and presenting heritage programs reflecting the early history of Vancouver. The society aims to help preserve Vancouver’s past, to encourage the celebration of our social and cultural history, and to make this history accessible now and for the future through the operation of Roedde House Museum.

 

Position Overview:

The Museum Manager reports directly to the Roedde House Preservation Society Board of Directors and manages the day-to-day operations of the museum. Primary responsibilities include supervising museum staff, marketing the museum, coordinating special events and rentals, working with the Education committee to welcome school visits, developing exhibitions, collections management, building and maintaining relationships with community organizations and allies, and welcoming volunteers and visitors.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

 

*	Oversee the maintenance and operations of the museum and its programs and activities.
*	Open the museum and welcome volunteers and visitors.
*	Supervise the Community Engagement Coordinator, Events Coordinator, Summer Student, and seasonal Program & Collections assistants. 
*	Oversee coordination of volunteers, maintenance of membership database and donor relations.
*	Organize and execute marketing initiatives.
*	Establish and maintain media relationships.
*	Liaise with the Education Committee to plan, promote, and schedule school tours.
*	Oversee the development of special exhibitions and community events.
*	Manage all aspects of house rentals.
*	Oversee the coordination, promotion and execution of monthly concerts and movie nights.
*	Take the lead on grant-writing, reporting and fundraising initiatives in collaboration with the Board of Directors. 
*	Carry out bookkeeping duties including bill payments, bank deposits, and payroll. 
*	In collaboration with the Treasurer, prepare grant, project and operating budgets and coordinate reporting requirements for Canada Revenue Agency.
*	Establish and maintain relationships with local community organizations and allies.
*	Liaise with the City of Vancouver and the Parks Board regarding maintenance of the house and the grounds.
*	Report to and work closely with the Board of Directors and prepare monthly reports.

 

Qualifications:


An energetic, highly organized, and creative professional, the Museum Manager will have the following qualifications: 



*	3-5 years experience with non profits or relevant experience. 
*	A Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited university or college.
*	Demonstrated management and supervisory skills.
*	Attention to detail and high level of accuracy.
*	Ability to balance several projects, competing demands and changing priorities.
*	Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
*	Demonstrated ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a small office.
*	Skills in development and maintenance of long-term professional relationships.
*	Excellent team player, good problem solver, enthusiastic, innovative, and pro-active.
*	Proficiency in MS Office applications; understanding of social media; familiarity with Canva, WordPress, and Collective Access an asset.

 

The following additional qualifications will be considered an asset:



*	Experience with grant application and administration.
*	Experience with cash handling.
*	Experience with bookkeeping best practices and QuickBooks.
*	Experience with museums or similar cultural heritage institutions.
*	Interest and experience in Vancouver culture and heritage.

 

Compensation:

This is a temporary 12-month maternity leave position (35 hours/ week) at $45,360 annual. The manager is expected to maintain regular office hours to be determined in consultation with the board.
