Hi Kira,

We purchased and installed an AED last week. We ordered from the AED Shop as it was less expensive than our local distributer. We bought the Phillips HeartStart OnSite, complete package: https://aedshop.ca/products/philips-heartstart-onsite-defibrillator-complete-package. If you check their website, they list prices for all the ongoing costs like batteries and replacement pads etc.

We installed ours by the front door in our main lobby. We checked with our local Fire Department to see if they had any recommendations or guidelines, and they just suggested somewhere with easy and highly visible access, so it will depend on your layout more than anything. Our Visitor Services Coordinator is also our O&HS rep, so she keeps an eye on it and is responsible for maintenance.

Hope this helps!

Subject: [BCMA] AED - ongoing maintenance cost

Hi museum colleagues,

I am wondering if any BC museums have an AED on site at their facility - specifically where the museum installed it, and/or is responsible to maintain it.

Looking for suggestions on where to purchase, and to get a sense of ongoing maintenance costs for the replacement batteries and pads. I understand they need replaced every 2-5 years.

Thanks!
