Hello museum colleagues,
We are writing to ask for recommendations from the museum and heritage
community.
Point Ellice House is in the early stages of setting up an on-site gift
shop, and we’re hoping to hire someone to help us get it established this
spring in preparation for the summer season. We’re looking for an
individual (or small consultant-type role) who can help with:
-
Developing a start-up plan and timeline for summer operations
-
Creating an inventory plan and sourcing approach
-
Setting up Square as our point-of-sale system
-
Pricing, basic retail procedures, and a tap-to-donate option
-
Supporting a small, values-aligned museum retail space
A key priority for us is showcasing Métis artists from Vancouver Island,
particularly in the Victoria area. As the MNBC Trading Post will no longer
be operating at Point Ellice House, we are looking to build a new,
thoughtful approach that reflects both the site and the community.
Rather than posting widely, we’d love to hear from this community first:
If you know someone with museum retail experience, Indigenous art retail
experience, or small cultural gift shop start-up expertise who might be a
good fit, we would really appreciate your suggestions. Kindly reach out to
jrosado at mnbc.ca
Thank you very much for your time and for sharing your knowledge.
Warm regards,
The Point Ellice House team
