Hi!

We have a few Heritage Conservation Education Courses that are coming up.

📝 Drafting A Statement of Significance | Tuesday, November 4th, 6pm – 9pm
$45 plus tax
In-person workshop at Heritage Hall
Statements of Significance (SOS) outline the heritage values and character-defining elements of historic places — from buildings and districts to landscapes and structures. These mandatory documents are central to heritage recognition at all levels of government and guide how change can occur while safeguarding heritage values.
In this in-person workshop at Heritage Hall, heritage consultant Elana Zysblat will explain the structure of SOSs and provide insight into identifying heritage values, evaluating historic places, and the key principles of writing effective statements.

📝 The Vancouver Heritage Register and Heritage Designation – and What It Means for You
| Tuesday, November 18th, 6pm – 8pm
$40 plus tax
In-person workshop at Heritage Hall
The Vancouver Heritage Register (VHR) lists nearly 2,300 buildings and structures recognized by City Council for their heritage value, serving as a key tool for recognition and resource management. In 2024, a major upgrade clarified its purpose, expanded eligibility, and introduced a new values-based evaluation system that reflects diverse community priorities.
Join heritage professional Jenni Pace at Heritage Hall for this in-person workshop exploring how the VHR works and why it matters for city planning and community growth. The session will also cover heritage designation — the legal protection against unauthorized demolition or alteration — and provide practical insights through illustrated presentations and case studies.

💻 Heritage 101 on Demand
Heritage 101 is the core course for the Heritage Conservation Certificate, introducing the fundamentals of heritage conservation in Canada. Covering topics from intangible cultural values to writing conservation plans, the course features 7 modules and an assignment, all available on demand so you can learn at your own pace.

Further details on each workshop can be found on our website - https://www.vancouverheritagefoundation.org/events/workshops-and-talks/heritage-conservation-education/.

If anyone is looking for self-reporting Professional Development credits, our courses are recognized by AIBC, PIBC, BCAAIC, BCSLA, IDIBC and BOABC.
We have a few sponsored seats available in both sessions through our Student Access Program<https://www.vancouverheritagefoundation.org/events/student-access-program/> for those with financial need. We have outreached to local universities as well this week but if you know of anyone who would be interested in a spot, they can contact me directly.

If you have any other questions, please don’t hesitate to let me know.

Thanks so much,

Katherine Figueiredo (she/her)
