Hi Ron,
I have read through a couple of the other replies and they’re useful. I did pick up on the fact your organization is volunteer run., this is where you may run into issues. Be sure to read the eligibility requirements for both Canada Summer Jobs and Young Canada Works carefully. They may have updated their eligibility, but I do know in previous application periods the organization must have a paid staff member in a supervisory role to qualify.
Cheers,

The TRMF has benefited greatly from this land and as such we reflect on our presence and practices, and hold space for better a future.

Subject: [BCMA] How to apply for and pay a summer student
Hi everyone.
The “Victoria Scout and Guide Museum” a small, all volunteer, non profit museum is considering hiring a student next summer for 2 to 3 months to do data entry, likely on a Catalogit platform.
Therefore we are seeking input from museums that have experience with this. Our questions are as follows.
1) what is the normal rate of pay for a student?
2) where are the best places to advertise for such a student? So far I have only contacted the University of Victoria.
3) where are the best places to seek grants to help us offset the costs? Canada Works? Etc.???
Also, what is the usual deadline to apply for such grants, December???
4) Finally, are other issues that I should be aware of?
Any and all comments and suggestions are most appreciative.
Sincerely
Ron Bilinsky
