Casey Koyczan Returns to Kamloops for Artist-in-Residence Project Inspired by Dream Journey at Kamloops Art Gallery
Dene interdisciplinary artist Casey Koyczan returns to Kamloops to develop dream ; nàte, a new immersive project created during his artist-in-residence at The Cube. Inspired by a transformative dream that led him from Yellowknife to Kamloops, Koyczan reconstructs the imagery and narratives of this dream through LiDAR scanning, 3D modeling, and digital projections.
Koyczan, who initially enrolled in TRU’s Geography department before shifting to fine arts, revisits sites in Kamloops that appeared in his dream, blending real and fantastical elements to create an immersive digital landscape. The work reflects on how memories evolve and the ways dreams shape our decisions. The exhibition offers viewers a chance to witness Koyczan’s artistic journey and the impact of dreams on his life and practice.
Casey Koyczan, a Bachelor of Fine Arts graduate of TRU and Master of Fine Arts graduate of the University of Manitoba, is known for his work in sculpture, installation, and digital media, incorporating soundscapes, music, and film scores into his interdisciplinary practice.
Koyczan will be hosting an artist talk on January 16, 1:00pm at Thompson Rivers University, Old Main 1562. All are welcome.
Everyone is invited to celebrate the Kamloops Art Gallery’s winter exhibitions on Saturday, January 18 from 5:30 to 8:00 pm. Join us for a welcome with Diena Jules and Greg Ferguson and seated conversation in the Central Gallery with Richard Hill, Timothy Long, and Sandra Semchuk followed by a casual reception in the KAG Studios and Atrium with live music by Daniela O'Fee. The evening also offers an art-making area for children, as well as wine sponsored by Twisted Spirits on 3rd, beer from Bright Eye Brewing, and coffee.
