Hello BCMA Colleagues,
The Sidney Museum has come across a leather collar case and some badges in
our storage room that was originally purchased from a thrift store and
given to the museum. As it has no local relevance to the Saanich Peninsula,
it was never accessioned.
The lid of the case no longer fits the body and has "RKB PCMR Grand Forks
B.C. 1940-1945" written in black marker on the top. Inside are badges
related to the Pacific Coast Militia Rangers (PCMR). Please see the
attached images.
At the time the museum had a volunteer who "specializes in genealogical
puzzles" look into it. They found that while there are no longer any lists
of members for the PCMRs, a man named Richard Kenneth Bradley (1905-2012)
lived in Grand Forts during the first half of the 1940s and died in
Victoria. He was a teacher in Powell River and apparently been the type of
person who would have served in the PCMR and had no other military record.

We would like to offer this object to another institution/organization who
would be interested in it and would ask that you cover the cost of shipping
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out.
Best,
Charlotte

*We respectfully acknowledge the Sidney Museum & Archives has been shaped
by the colonial history of Canada, and is located in Sidney/SETINES on the
territory of the W̱SÁNEĆ People including the **BOḰEĆEN (Pauquachin),
SȾÁ,UTW̱ (Tsawout), MÁLEXEŁ (Malahat), W̱JOȽEȽP (Tsartlip) and W̱SÍḴEM
(Tseycum) First Nations.*
*We understand that territory acknowledgment is just one part of
Reconciliation, and the museum continues to work towards other ways that we
can participate in Reconciliation alongside Indigenous communities.*
