Project Overview
The Site C Cultural Centre, part of BC Hydro’s Site C Clean Energy Project, will honor and celebrate the cultures of Indigenous Peoples impacted by the project. Located near the Site C dam, the Centre will feature:

  *
A secure storage facility for archaeological belongings/artifacts
  *
Indoor and outdoor exhibit spaces
  *
A cultural gathering space
  *
Café and food services area
  *
Gift shop

Position Summary
The Collections Manager will lead all collections-related activities during the development of the Cultural Centre, including gaining repository approval, developing exhibit content, relocating artifacts, and planning for long-term operations.

Key Responsibilities
Year 1 – Repository Approval & Exhibit Preparation

  *
Lead the repository application process with the BC Archaeology Branch
  *
Develop collection management policies and procedures in consultation with Indigenous communities
  *
Support artifact selection, conservation, and preparation for exhibits
  *
Assist the exhibit design team with content, loans, and interpretation
  *
Ensure artifact tracking and compliance with conservation/display standards

Year 2 – Transition to Operations

  *
Coordinate relocation of belongings/artifacts from Burnaby and Fort St. John
  *
Set up and organize permanent storage facilities
  *
Develop and implement a content/collection database system
  *
Finalize policies for access, borrowing, and digital asset management
  *
Advise on future operational needs, including staffing and equipment

Qualifications
Experience:

  *
5–10 years in museum and/or collections management
  *
Cataloguing, inventory, conservation, and handling of artifacts
  *
Familiarity with museum databases
  *
Independent, proactive project leadership
  *
Knowledge of BC Archaeology Branch Repository Guidelines (asset)
  *
Experience engaging with Indigenous communities (asset)

Education:
Master’s or PhD in a relevant field, such as:

  *
Archaeology
  *
Anthropology
  *
Museum Studies
  *
Collections Management
  *
Conservation/Preservation
  *
Or a related discipline

Skills:

  *
Strong communication and stakeholder engagement abilities
  *
Advanced proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  *
Detail-oriented, organized, and solution-focused
  *
Ability to work in cross-cultural and multi-stakeholder environments
