1. YCW JOB OPPORTUNITY: Museum Interpreter and Curatorial Assistant
Caetani Cultural Centre, Vernon, BC
Term: May 05 – August 22, 2025
Salary: $17.85 per hour
The Caetani Centre is seeking to recruit an intern eligible through the
Young Canada Works program for a summer placement as a Museum Interpreter
and Curatorial Assistant. This is a full-time position (35 hours per week)
from May 05 to August 22.
ABOUT THE POSITION: The Museum Interpreter and Curatorial Assistant will be
part of our interpretive team, guiding members of the public, special
interest groups, and dignitaries through the museum while interpreting the
story of the Caetani family in the context of world history and events, and
presenting the Caetani collections, objects, and artwork.
The successful candidate will assist in the research of various objects and
archival documents in our collection with the aim of designing, revising
and developing exhibits and interpretive storytelling mediums for the
public. They will have the opportunity to complete a curatorial
interpretive project or exhibit in the form or media of their choice, with
the assistance of staff.
Other duties include assistance with admissions, gift shop sales, volunteer
recruiting, fundraising, public relations, and event management. General
light duties for venue and garden maintenance may be required.
ABOUT YOU: The ideal candidate for the position will be curious, creative,
congenial, eager to learn, and willing to become an ambassador and
storyteller (both in person and through our interpretive displays). The
ideal candidate should possess a keen interest in the arts, culture, local
heritage and international history, and the educational role of museums and
cultural institutions. You will have excellent communication skills, some
experience in public speaking, strong writing and graphic design skills, an
awareness of current cultural and social interests and issues, and a
commitment to inclusive and respectful community engagement.
An intermediate-level understanding of Microsoft Office, archival research
methods, online resources, presentation technologies, digital media
editing, and website and graphic design would be an asset. Additional
language competency in French or Italian would be beneficial but is not
required.
Candidates will be ideally studying in the field of History, Museum
Studies, Art History, Studio Art, Performing Arts, Archival Studies, or a
related discipline, and should have a strong appreciation for the value and
importance of arts, culture, and heritage. The candidate must be a
full-time student prior to and following the work term.

The Caetani Centre is seeking to recruit an intern eligible for the Young
Canada Works program for a summer placement as a Community Engagement
Assistant. This full-time position (35 hours per week) runs from May 05 to
August 22, 2024.
ABOUT THE POSITION: The successful candidate will be curious, creative,
congenial, eager to learn, and willing to become an ambassador and
storyteller (both in person and through marketing materials). The Community
Engagement Assistant will have excellent communication skills in writing,
editing and graphic design in order to assist in marketing and promotion of
all aspects of the Caetani Centre programs and events. This will include
the creation of press releases, print materials, blog posts, website and
social media updates, e-newsletters, video, reels, and more.
Ideally, the successful candidate will be an excellent communicator, have a
demonstrated fluency in graphic design software, be familiar with industry
marketing standards, and be able to engage and liaise with the public in an
inclusive, respectful manner. They should demonstrate competency in
computer applications for graphic design, word processing, website editing,
data management, and spreadsheets. The candidate should possess a keen
interest in arts, culture, heritage, and community engagement.
Other duties include assistance with guest admission and orientation, gift
shop sales, volunteer and membership engagement, fundraising, public
relations, and event set up and organization. General light duties for
venue and garden maintenance may be required.
ABOUT YOU: Ideally, candidates will be studying in the fields of marketing,
communications, journalism, graphic design, studio arts,
tourism/hospitality, museum studies or related disciplines. You should have
an advanced level and understanding of English (oral, reading and writing)
and an intermediate level and understanding of Microsoft Office, Google
Workspace, Adobe Creative Suite, as well as online resources and
applications, digital presentation and video editing programs, and social
media platforms. Customer relations/service, retail sales, and
tourism/hospitality experience, and Serving It Right Certification (or
ability and willingness to obtain it), are also beneficial to the position.
Additional language competency in French or Italian would be beneficial but
is not required.
