Election 2025 - BCMA Advocacy and Resources For Taking Action

The BC Museums Association works to advocate for the needs of our members
and the broader cultural sector at local, provincial, and federal levels.
In the weeks leading up to the 2025 Federal Election, here are some ways
you can support our sector in taking action.

2025 Federal Election

Canadians will be returning to the polls on April 28th to vote in a federal
election. The BCMA and our partners at the BC Coalition of Arts, Culture,
and Heritage <https://www.coalitionbc.ca/> are curating federal election
advocacy resources and will continue to share news, strategic
recommendations, and templates throughout the coming weeks.

We are also working with our Provincial and Territorial Museum Association
counterparts and the Canadian Museums Association to coordinate our joint
federal advocacy efforts and to ensure consistent messaging/priorities.

If you want to jump-start your organizational or personal advocacy efforts,
we recommend reviewing the following resources:

Five Steps You Can Take to Make a Difference

   1.

Learn who is running in your riding and your organization’s riding:
Elections
   Canada <https://www.elections.ca/scripts/vis/FindED?L=e&PAGEID=20>allows
you to search by postal code.
   2.

Consider reaching out to your local candidates and offering your venue
as a space for an all-candidates meeting.
   3.

Attend local all-candidates meetings and ask questions about how the
candidates will support the arts, culture, and heritage sector
   1.

      We recommend asking them…
      1.

to endorse the Canadian Arts Coalition’s 1% Ask
         <https://canadianartscoalition.com/artsvote/>.
         2.

to support modernizing Canada’s National Museum Policy
         3.

to support developing a National Framework for Indigenous Cultural
         Heritage Rights
         4.

Write an op-ed in your local newspaper talking about why the federal
election is important to local museums, galleries, and heritage sites.
   5.

Share posts and images developed by organizations like the Canadian Arts
   Coalition
   <https://canadianartscoalition.com/artsvote/artsvote-for-individuals/>
   or the Canadian Museums Association
   <https://www.museums.ca/site/aboutthecma/newsandannouncements/march262025>
on social media and tag your local candidates.

Magnifying Federal Arts, Culture, and Heritage Advocacy

Canada’s arts, culture, and heritage sector is large and both socially and
economically impactful. When we bring together our many voices to speak
with a shared message, we can shift government policy and funding. During
the 2025 federal election, the BCMA will continue to curate national arts,
culture, and heritage advocacy materials to equip our members and sector
with shared language and common goals to advance during this very rapid
campaign period.

We recommend considering the following advocacy toolkits when developing
your personal and organizational advocacy strategies during the 2025
election:
