development opportunities!

*Webinar: MemoryBC*

Date: Thursday, June 6, 2024

Time: 10:00 - 11:30am PST
Want to learn more about MemoryBC? Never used it (or AtoM) and are curious?
Or you have used it (or AtoM) but have questions? This webinar is for you!
Lisa Snider, the MemoryBC Coordinator, will go over the basics of MemoryBC.
She will cover the researcher or public side, as well as covering the
basics of the backend, and how to input authority records and archival
descriptions. You don't need any technical knowledge, or previous
experience with MemoryBC, to attend!

This webinar is a perfect opportunity to support the work of summer
students and volunteers working with records and adding descriptions into
MemoryBC!

*Webinar: “Introduction to the National Archival Appraisal Board (NAAB) and
monetary appraisal services for archival donations”*

Date: Monday, June 18, 2024
Time: 10:00 - 11:30am PST

Have you always wanted to learn about monetary appraisals from the National
Archival Appraisal Board (NAAB)? Curious about becoming an appraiser? Then
this 90-minute webinar is the place to start!

Practicing NAAB Appraisers (PNAs) Melanie Hardbattle and Lara Wilson will
provide:
- an overview of NAAB including its appraisal services, membership
benefits, and the PNA certification
- information on how to prepare for NAAB appraisal panels
- key elements of a NAAB appraisal report

The webinar will include time for discussion and questions following the
presentation. Presented in partnership with the National Archival Appraisal
Board

*Distance Education Course: "Managing Archival Photographs"*

Date: Sept 9 - Nov 18, 2024

Over 10 weeks students will learn about the history of photography and
different technical processes and how to appraise, accession, describe and
preserve this popular format that is found in every archive, library, and
museum collection. Students will also look at the specific guidelines when
it comes to reference, copyright, public outreach, and the best practices
for digitization.

Course fee: AABC members: $350.00 (CAD); non-members $500.00 (CAD) plus the
cost of the course textbook (available as an electronic version from the
SAA).

Registration deadline: Sept 5, 2024
