[BCMA] Museum of Vancouver Event this Thursday May 18! - "Making Space: Asian Heritage Month"

Dear Colleagues,

I am writing to invite you to our “Making Space” program this coming Thursday evening on May 18th at 6:30pm (doors open at 6pm). As part of this year’s International Museum Day themes of Sustainability and Wellness, we will be hosting four panelists who all do intersectional work in anti-racism and cultural food advocacy. In this panel, we will ask: What does it mean to designate a month to the celebration of the multitudes of experiences and identities “Asian” is meant to capture? What possibilities does AHM open for social justice – and where, if any, are its potential limits to this work?

This panel will also take time to look back at the “Seat at the Table” exhibition on Chinese Canadian Migration to BC through the lens of food culture, that was on view at the Museum of Vancouver and the Chinese Canadian Museum – and will now be travelling to Cumberland. In what ways can we continue a conversation on working with and representing communities responsibly?
