International Women’s Day celebrated at Kelowna Art Gallery

March 6, 2023 – Kelowna, BC: This International Women’s Day, the Kelowna Art Gallery invites the community to celebrate with them. On Wednesday, March 8, 2023, they’ll be offering free admission to everyone from 10 am to 5 pm.



“We currently have an amazing line up of exhibitions led by women that explore feminist perspectives,” says Nataley Nagy, Executive Director. “We welcome residents and visitors alike to be inspired by the achievements of women in the visual arts together with us.”



Visitors can access all four exhibition areas, plus an Art Lab making space where they can contribute to a textile tapestry mural inspired by the featured artists.



We Are Countless is a powerful exhibition by artists Reyhan Yazdani and Nasim Pirhadi that reflects upon the artists’ experiences as Iranian women. It calls attention to timely social and political issues through a presentation of ceramic sculpture, video, works on paper, paintings, and installation.



In the largest gallery space, visitors can view artist Shannon Bool’s thought-provoking exhibition The Shape of Obus. It re-contextualizes and challenges the work of venerated 1930s Swiss-French architect Le Corbusier through a selection of large-scale tapestries, paintings with embroidery on hand-dyed silk, photograms, and sculptural elements.



But it’s not only the work of artists that will be celebrated. The Kelowna Art Gallery is proud to be led by a strong and inspiring team of women. At the helm is Nataley Nagy, Executive Director, and in the key Curatorial and Education positions are Christine May, Clea Haugo, Sumi Ali, and Victoria Verge. Most of what visitors experience at the Gallery is because of their valuable contributions and continued efforts.



The Kelowna Art Gallery is located at 1315 Water Street in downtown Kelowna, B.C.
