The Kamloops Heritage Railway Society

The Kamloops Heritage Railway Society (KHR) is a not-for-profit
organization registered under the Societies act. KHR has a mandate to
maintain steam locomotive 2141, the “Spirit of Kamloops”, for the public,
on behalf of the City of Kamloops. The mission of KHR is to maintain
railway history including steam locomotive 2141 and other rolling stock by
providing a variety of safe experiences that educate, entertain, and enrich
the lives of our guests, volunteers, partners, and the community.


The Kamloops Heritage Railway Park

KHR is expanding our programming to include a Heritage Park
surrounding our workshop
facility at Pioneer Park in Kamloops. The Park is envisioned as an
immersive heritage town and already includes several restored rail coaches,
a museum exhibiting local railway history, a growing school program, the
steam locomotive 2141, a model railway exhibiting Kamloops at the turn of
the century, a mini-train attraction, and several unique venue facilities.
KHR’s primary objective is to grow and develop the Heritage Park into a top
tourist destination and educational facility in Kamloops.



About the Role

Schedule: Full time

This position reports directly to the Board of Directors.

This position has the potential for up to 12 direct reports.



Position overview

Guided by the goals of the KHR strategic plan, the General Manager’s
primary responsibilities are the day-to-day operations of KHR, as well as
leading the growth of KHR and enhancing the society’s stature in the
community.



Key Responsibilities

1. Create and execute the annual business plan.

2. Managing the day-to-day operations of KHR.

3. Develop and grow the Heritage Park into a self-sustaining operation and
top tourist destination in Kamloops.

4. Actively pursue fundraising and grant opportunities.

5. Lead the society - Responsible for the hiring, training, and daily
supervision of all staff and volunteers.

6. Maintain the digital environments within the society including the
website, correspondence system, membership, volunteer records, donors,
financial system, and archives.

7. Uphold a welcoming, inclusive, and safety conscious culture within KHR,
not only for volunteers and staff but also guests to KHR and the Heritage
Park.



Qualifications

   - Minimum of 5 years business/not-for-profit management experience
or a combination
   of equivalent experience and relevant education.
   - Business Development skills including the knowledge of budgets,
   forecasting, management, finances, and the ability to generate revenue.
   - Previous experience leading a team, preferably in a volunteer-based
   organization.
   - Formal training in the business sector is considered an advantage.
   - Computer literacy including Google Workspace and common social media.
   - Ability to develop and foster strong working relationships.
   - Working knowledge of employment standards.
   - Work experience in a museum or other cultural facility/heritage site
   is preferred.
