The Alberta Museums Association (AMA) Board of Directors is working closely
with Pathfind to find the perfect candidate for the Executive Director /

*Job Description*

The Alberta Museums Association (AMA) was founded in 1971 as a non-profit
society, through which museum workers could meet for the benefit of
Alberta's developing museum community. Today, the AMA counts nearly 400
Institutional and Individual Members among its membership of Alberta
museums and museum professionals.

Reporting to the Board of Directors you will be responsible for the
following tasks.

*Governance*

   - Manage all administrative tasks relating to the Board of Directors
   - Manage Board development and education
   - Work within the Governance Policy Manual – specifically Executive
   Limitations (ELs) and Board Executive Relationships (BERs); work with the
   Board to ensure they are in compliance with Board Governance Processes
   (BGPs)
   - Meet regularly with the President to update on outstanding issues and
   to build the meeting agendas
   - Provide Monitoring Reports as required

*Strategic Planning*

   - Provide direction to the AMA Secretariat on the implementation and
   fulfillment of the AMA Strategic Plan
   - Ensure that all AMA activities connect to the AMA Strategic Plan and
   are filtered through the following areas: Strategic Services,
   Organizational Capacity, Knowledge Development and Community Engagement

*Financial Management*

   - Ensure the AMA has adequate resources to fulfill its Strategic Plan
   - Manage the internal budget process with AMA Secretariat
   - Provide direction to the Board’s Financial Review Committee regarding
   the Governance activity budget
   - Provide quarterly reports to AMA Secretariat
   - Provide quarterly reports to the Board’s Financial Review Committee
   - Work with the AMA contract accountant to ensure all records are
   maintained
   - Review weekly, monthly and quarterly reports from the accountant
   - Work with the Advancement Lead on potential external revenue sources
   - Work with AMA staff on program, service, event and project budgets

*Human Resources Management*

   - Primary contact for all AMA staff regarding HR issues
   - Develop and conduct interviews
   - Maintain HR records
   - Determine workload balance for AMA staff and additional HR requirements
   - Responsible for the administration of the pension and benefits plans

*Portfolio Management*

   - Work with Program Leads and Coordinators to ensure Portfolios are
   appropriate – skill set, knowledge base, learning and development, workload
   balance, etc.
   - Provide project management guidance when required

*External Relations*

   - Determine appropriate partnerships, collaborations and sponsorship by
   AMA of external events and programs
   - Manage external relationship development and management

*Performance Measures*

   - Lead Metrics Team in measuring the AMA’s performance
   - Ensure all staff are aware of the measurement requirements for the
   program, service, event or project that they are responsible for
   - Report to the Board on Metrics as detailed in the Strategic Plan

*Qualifications Required*

   - Master’s degree in a relevant discipline
   - Non-profit experience is a must
   - In-depth knowledge and understanding of the voluntary (non-profit /
   charitable) sector
   - Government relations experience is a must
   - A visionary who understands how to set a plan, and how to lead and
   articulate its execution in a clear and concise manner
   - Strong people-leadership and team skills
   - Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills
   - Excellent relationship building with external stakeholders
   - Demonstrated ability to work successfully with a Board of Directors
   - Possesses business and financial acumen

$87,000 to $95,000
