Carr House, in Victoria, has an exciting opportunity for candidates
interested in exploring a career in heritage and museums programming or
arts administration!

Job Summary: Heritage Site Programs and Residencies Manager

The Heritage Site Programs and Residencies Manager position will establish
the road ahead for the new off-season community-based direction of Carr
House. The three key aspects of this position will be: Research,
programming and policy development, and planning, all with the guidance of
the society board and the Site Manager. The manager position will be
responsible for researching existing models of residencies, programming and
membership and volunteerism and making recommendations to the site manager
and the board. They will then move on building the framework for these
programs within Carr House, including developing policies, templates,
schedules and supply and equipment needs. Finally, the manager will start
to populate the first season of programming, including making contacts with
presenters and promoting the residencies.

Training and networking opportunities are included in the position,
including completing an article for potential publication in a professional
organization magazine, a 12 part online course; Indigenous Canada,
membership to professional organizations and introductions to community
members working in the field. The position would suit a candidate who
enjoys working with people, is creative and positive, organized and
community oriented. They must display enthusiasm for learning and sharing,
particularly about heritage, the arts and community, and possess strong
sensitivity to, and respect for, diversity, inclusivity, and reconciliation.

This position can be carried out remotely. Candidates from the four
designated employment equity groups are encouraged to apply.

This is an 18-week position starting the third week of August 2021,
although the start date is negotiable, subject to the successful
candidate’s availability. The hourly wage is $20.

Required Skills and Experience:

• The candidate must be a post-secondary graduate under 31 and meet the
other eligibility requirements listed at

• Excellent communication skills and collaborative skills, in person,

• Excellent research and written skills, including writing announcements,
articles, policies, and proposals.

• The ability to plan, conduct, organize and present research based upon
interviews, surveys, and online searches.

• Experience or interest in planning events

• Comfort with working with leaders in the community and of similar
organizations and with legal and financial advisors.

• Ability to work independently and with others

• Experience in a museum, heritage site or arts organization is an asset

Carr House is a provincial and national historic site, where iconic artist
and writer Emily Carr was born 150 years ago. The site is located in
picturesque James Bay near downtown Victoria, on the traditional
territories of the Lək̓ʷəŋən speaking people. Tours are offered to the
public during the summer season. We are working toward decolonizing the
story of the house. The focus of the site is also shifting to become a
centre for creative community in the off season, presenting workshops and
micro conferences, exhibits, events, and residencies and becoming more of
an accessible asset to the local community.
