Registration underway for fall art classes at Kelowna Art Gallery

August 26, 2021 - Kelowna, BC: For those hoping to creatively slide into Autumn, the fall art classes and workshops offered at the Kelowna Art Gallery may be just what you are looking for.

Members of the public can sign up for a class of painting in acrylics or watercolours, drawing, mixed media, printmaking, or explore a more specialized media during one of the 1- or 2-day weekend workshops.

"Learning to tap into your own creativity is such a powerful and rewarding experience," says Victoria Verge, Education Coordinator of Adult Programs at the Kelowna Art Gallery. "Having the opportunity to learn directly from an artist in a supportive and imaginative atmosphere provides students with a safe place to unleash their creativity and new artistic tools they can use right away."

Local artists Jim Elwood, Sarah Parsons, Kyle L. Poirier, Dylan Ranney, Jen Rempel, Annabel Stanley, Rena Warren, and Fay Wolfenden will lead the classes and workshops.

Most classes run for six weeks, and cater to absolute beginners, as well as those of intermediate skill level. Beginners will learn the basic principles of their preferred medium, while also discussing, exploring, and expressing themselves through art. More advanced students will build on their existing skills through creative exercises to develop their abilities. Instruction by the Gallery's art teachers is supportive, motivating, and inspiring.

The cost for each six-week-long series of classes is $160.00, or $128.00 for Gallery members.

The Gallery will also be hosting special weekend workshops throughout the fall. They offer participants the opportunity to immerse themselves in a particular project working alongside a skilled artist/instructor. Workshops include Glass Art Mosaics, Willow Weaving: Quails, and "Materialize" - Introduction to Sculpture, among others.

Two popular introductory classes will also be offered. An after-school class for youth ages 10 to 15 will take place on Wednesdays, and an art sampler program that dives into a variety of artistic mediums is scheduled on Wednesday evenings.
