<p class="MsoNormal">I am posting on behalf of someone who has reached out with a potential donation of a WWII-era photo book, that has an interesting story to go along with it. The following is the information that was sent:<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><o:p> </o:p></p>
<p class="MsoPlainText"><i>Our neighbour and friend Hans Ohrt had asked us to find a place to donate a book he received as a child. Hans was born in Frankfort Germany. His obituary appeared on the Devlin Funeral Home webpage for Gibson’s BC.<o:p></o:p></i></p>
<p class="MsoPlainText"><i>Hans passed away this autumn and we have exhausted our contacts at local museums and collections. Their suggestion was to reach out to B.C museums to see if what we have is an appropriate fit for their collection.<o:p></o:p></i></p>
<p class="MsoPlainText"><i><o:p> </o:p></i></p>
<p class="MsoPlainText"><i>Around 1945 Hans received a book that is a collection of pictures/prints of places from around the world. It's a semi bound collection of photographic prints of world wide land marks. John Stoddard was the photographer. The collection
was printed in Germany by the Werner Company of Chicago. The families living in Germany were so poor following WW2 that children exchanged items so they would have something different to enjoy. Hans had a remarkable family. His father hid Hans in the woods
everyday for two years so Hans did not have to join the Hitler Youth League. That experience shaped Han's life. He trained as an engineer, emigrated to New York and worked there much of his life. He eventually decided to change careers and worked for KLM enjoying
the benefits of discounted travel benefits. About 20 years ago, on one of his trips, he met our friend Denise Poirier, fell in love and married. A big surprise for both families. Denise in her sixties, Hans in his seventies. Soon thereafter, they moved to
Sechelt BC, and Hans became a Canadian, one of his happiest days. He continued to travel with Denise until his last trip to Mexico in 2025. He passed away at ninety years of age in October 2025 still clear of mind, in good humour, concise and very kind.<o:p></o:p></i></p>
