Ruby Smith Díaz (B.Ed) is an afro latina person born to Chilean and Jamaican parents in Edmonton – amiskwaciy, Treaty 6. Her experiences of marginalization as a youth has inspired her to dedicate her life's work to social justice and exploring issues of equity
and identity through art. She is the author of the top-selling book, <i>Searching for Serafim</i>, about the life and legacy of Serafim “Joe” Fortes, a trailblazing Black lifeguard, who became a cultural icon in a racist society. </div>
