Job Opportunity at the Sechelt Community Archives
Salary:               $25,000, $27/hr
Hours:                Part-time or full-time depending on candidate
Job Type:            Fixed term contract between July 2026 and March 
2027
Start date:         July 16, 2026

The Sechelt Community Archives is seeking an Archives Assistant to 
support the data management, organization, and documentation of archival 
materials. Applicants must meet the requirements for Young Canada Works 
at Building Careers in Heritage: be a Canadian citizen (or permanent 
resident), be between the ages of 16-30, and have completed a university 
or college degree.

This temporary contract position plays a key role in advancing ongoing 
archival and digital preservation projects. The role ensures efficient 
and accurate management of archival records, data entry, and supports 
the archive team in maintaining high-quality archival standards.

Role Overview
Reporting to the Archivist, the Archives Assistant supports archival 
projects by processing, organizing, and managing digital and physical 
materials. The main project we will be data entry to transfer archival 
content from the existing SCA website to the Access to Memory (AtoM) 
database. The role includes ensuring proper metadata entry and assisting 
with quality control. By supporting accurate workflows and archival 
standards, the Archives Assistant contributes to the preservation and 
accessibility of the Sechelt Community Archives’ collections.

Responsibilities
• Conduct data entry for archival records in content management systems 
or databases.
• Process and organize digital files, including renaming, metadata 
entry, and file management.
• Perform quality control checks to ensure accuracy, clarity, and 
completeness of digitized materials.
• Coordinate with the Archives team to support smooth project execution.
• Assist with other archive-related tasks as assigned.

Qualifications
• Successful completion of post-secondary coursework in Archival or 
Library Studies, or a relevant field.
• Knowledge of and experience with the Rules for Archival Description 
(RAD)
• Ability to operate database software Access to Memory (AtoM); training 
provided.
• Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel).
• Experience with descriptive and subject cataloguing.
• Strong communication skills for working with the team.
• Highly organized with careful attention to detail, particularly with 
digital assets.
• Self-directed with the ability to manage time effectively, maintain 
quality standards, and audit work independently.
