Hi!
I am currently looking for language speakers to help with a multi-language, simple marine biology ID guide. This guide would be aimed at providing natural history language fluency for learners of different backgrounds.
We have a small budget, and I am looking on advice on how to do renumeration and how to find the right folks to help out. Here are a few thoughts to consider:
*
Who do I ask and how do I make the ask?
*
Ideally, I would hope for someone who has a bit of local / technical biology knowledge combined with cultural knowledge (for example, I discovered that you can't translate "green shore crab," Hemigrapsus oregonensis, into "le crabe vert" because that's used for the European green crab which is something totally different)
*
How would you come up with a $ renumeration that is both fair but also recognizes that different people need different amounts of time to do things?
*
Would it be insulting or unusual to ask 2-3 same-language speakers to work as a team?
Any other thoughts on how to be culturally respectful are much appreciated! And please feel free to connect me with anyone who you think would be a good fit.
Thanks!
Steph

I acknowledge and am grateful to be able to live, work, and play on the traditional, ancestral, and unceded territories of the lək̓ʷəŋən speaking peoples, specifically the Songhees and Esquimalt Nations, who have respected these lands and waters for thousands of years. I also extend my gratitude to the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm, Sḵwx̱wú7mesh, and səl̓ilwətaɁɬ peoples, whose traditional lands my family has called home for over 60 years.
