Hi everyone,

I’m reaching out from the Revelstoke Railway Museum to gather feedback and
insights as we explore creating a dedicated maintenance position.

As a small museum with both indoor gallery space and outdoor rail yard
assets, we’re looking to better understand how others structure and support
this kind of role. We’d really appreciate your input on a few key areas:

   - *Scope of work:* What tasks are typically assigned to a maintenance
role in your museum? (e.g., building repairs, exhibit upkeep, rail
equipment or artifact maintenance, groundskeeping, snow removal, seasonal
   setup, contractor coordination, etc.)
   - *Hours:* How many hours per week does this role typically involve? Is
it year-round, seasonal, or variable depending on operational needs?
   - *Compensation:* What is the typical pay range (hourly or salary), and
   how do you determine this?
   - *Structure:* Is the role a staff position, contract, or shared with
   another organization (e.g., municipality)?
   - *Context:* If you’re also a smaller or rural museum, any insights on
scaling this role would be especially helpful.

If you’re willing to share job descriptions or examples, that would also be
greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance for your time and for sharing your experience—it’s
incredibly helpful as we work through this.

Best regards,
Victoria
