1910: The Uncovering
Soon after its World Premiere at the Vancouver International Mountain Film
Festival on November 12, Revelstoke will get to see the new, stunning
documentary 1910 - The Uncovering. Principal photography for the 27-minute
Film took place in July and December of 2024, showcasing key local
locations: Revelstoke Railway Museum, Parks Canada, Rogers Pass, and
Revelstoke Museum & Archives. In addition to surprising Vancouver
connections, the film includes insightful interviews with local experts
Tomo Fujimura, Cathy English, John Woods, Sylvain Hebert, Doug Meyer, Ed
Palasz, Karen Matthews, and a cameo appearance by Taiki Fujimura. It also
includes the skilled camera work of Revelstoke residents Tom Poole and
Francois Desrosiers.
Using new information and graphic techniques, this Film describes the
tragic avalanche that occurred at the Rogers Pass summit in March of 1910.
It remains Canada's deadliest, with 58 railway workers losing their lives.
This documentary project also delves into the lives of two unlikely friends
today, a downtown Vancouver businessman and a Japanese-born ski guide,
brought together by their unique connections to the story and shared
passion for researching the mysteries and injustices of this event. During
production, the team was surprised by a 1910 victim’s great-grandson's
first-ever visit to the sites, from Tokyo.
Tickets are just $10, with all proceeds going to The Revelstoke Railway
Museum and Revelstoke Museum & Archives. Many of the Film participants will
be present to discuss with the audience afterwards. Arts Revelstoke -
