Free admission and activities at Kelowna Art Gallery on Canada Day


What: Free Admission + Family Art Activities

June 24, 2025 – Kelowna, BC: The Kelowna Art Gallery is inviting families of all ages and compositions to add a creative spin to their celebrations on Canada Day. To make it an easy decision, they will be offering free admission and a variety of free activities for everyone on Tuesday, July 1, 2025, from 10 am to 4 pm.



Families can stop by one of the “creation stations” set up outside of the Gallery to construct their very own beautiful B.C. Dogwood Flower to wave at the crowds. It was back in 1956 when the delicate white Pacific Dogwood became the official floral emblem of British Columbia. All materials will be supplied, including markers, construction paper, popsicle sticks, scissors, and glue.



“It is deeply satisfying to see people of all ages and skills expressing themselves together through art,” says Sumi Ali, Education Coordinator at the Kelowna Art Gallery. “Visitors are in for a treat. They won’t want to miss exploring the four imaginative exhibitions on view inside of the Gallery building. They’re so fun and inspiring!”



An art installation made entirely from LEGO® bricks has proved to be a hugely popular attraction for audiences. Building Black Civilizations: Journey of 2,000 Ships by Ghanaian Canadian artist Ekow Nimako features captivating cityscapes and environments constructed from over half a million black LEGO® pieces. The Art Lab is home to a LEGO® creation station where visitors can take a seat at the LEGO® Table to freestyle with black blocks or contribute to the "Brick By Brick" wall display.



And there’s even more for visitors to see—in the outdoor courtyard space, an intriguing sculpture by artist José Luis Torres titled HANDMADE rises on stilts above the ground. It is constructed from salvaged windows and doors and might be described as a 3-dimensional collage that has a maze-like quality to its structure. kn k̓ʷul̓lm tl iʔ spuʔús (I made it from my heart) by syilx artist Mariel Belanger and collaborators highlights the intricate artistry of tule reed weaving. It can be seen in the Thomas A Budd Gallery space.



The exhibitions and activities run from 10 am to 4 pm on Canada Day. Those interested in the Pacific Dogwood floral activity are encouraged to come early as supplies are limited.



The Kelowna Art Gallery is located at 1315 Water Street, in downtown Kelowna, B.C.
