The Bill Reid Gallery is seeking an Assistant Curator to play an active role in developing exhibitions and public programs that present Indigenous arts and culture from Indigenous perspectives.

In collaboration with the Curator, the Assistant Curator will:

- Plan and facilitate exhibitions and programs
- Contribute to research and content development
- Build and maintain relationships with Indigenous artists and communities

Responsibilities:


  *   Collaborate with Curator, artists, and external curators on exhibition design and development

     *   Assist with installation and deinstallation
     *   Research and develop didactic materials
     *   Lead select exhibitions and contribute to the annual exhibition schedule
     *   Handle loan forms, image procurement, and credits
     *   Coordinate touring exhibitions and logistics
     *   Respond to image requests and general inquiries
     *   Support grant writing and fundraising initiatives
     *   Collaborate on program schedules that complement exhibitions
     *   Deliver exhibition tours to school and public groups
     *   Coordinate artist-led workshops and events
     *   Gather community input for program development
     *   Maintain community and program partnerships
     *   Participate in gallery events as needed
     *   Meet with donors and collectors
     *   Support accessioning processes and documentation
     *   Maintain collections database

Qualifications


     *   Post-secondary education in visual arts, museum studies, Indigenous studies, or equivalent experience
     *   2–3 years of relevant experience in a gallery or museum setting
     *   Strong knowledge of Indigenous artistic practices in Canada
     *   Experience working with Indigenous artists, Elders, and communities
     *   Proven ability to curate and implement visual arts exhibitions
     *   Knowledge of fine art handling and logistics
     *   Excellent written and verbal communication skills
     *   Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
     *   Indigenous language knowledge is an asset
