*Community Days returns to the Royal BC Museum with by-donation admission
for everyone*
VICTORIA, BC — The Royal BC Museum is opening its doors and its galleries
to the public from January 6 to 12 for a week of admission-by-donation with
Community Days.
Visitors are invited to explore the museum’s core galleries, including new
and reopened spaces, and *Canadian Modern
<https://www.royalbcmuseum.bc.ca/visit/exhibitions/canadian-modern>, a
feature exhibition from the ROM on modern design in Canada. Canadian
Modern*—highlighting
the experimentation, innovation and ingenuity behind 100 culturally
significant objects created in Canada—is on the 3rd floor next to *Old
Town, New Approach
<https://www.royalbcmuseum.bc.ca/visit/exhibitions/old-town-new-approach>,
and will be at the Royal BC Museum through February 16.*
Elsewhere on the 3rd floor are two recently refreshed spaces, the Jonathan
Hunt House
<https://www.royalbcmuseum.bc.ca/visit/exhibitions/jonathan-hunt-house>
and *Our
Living Languages
<https://www.royalbcmuseum.bc.ca/visit/exhibitions/our-living-languages>,
*which
was developed in partnership with the First Peoples’ Cultural Council. Both
spaces are a celebration of the province’s rich Indigenous history and the
communities that continue to shape and influence the region.
Alongside longstanding visitor favourite HMS *Discovery*
<https://www.royalbcmuseum.bc.ca/visit/exhibitions/human-history-galleries> is
a newly reimagined space called *Forgotten Landscapes
<https://www.royalbcmuseum.bc.ca/visit/exhibitions/human-history-galleries>.*
In May 2023, our exhibition team uncovered long-lost landscape paintings
from the early 1900s. Initially meant to display taxidermy, these showcases
were later repurposed for maritime artifacts. Now, these original paintings
are back on display.
As always, the museum’s 2nd floor is home to the Natural History gallery
<https://www.royalbcmuseum.bc.ca/visit/exhibitions/natural-history-gallery>,
featuring stunning recreations of British Columbia’s most iconic fauna,
flora, and natural landscapes.
While you’re here, continue the adventure at IMAX® Victoria
<https://imaxvictoria.com/> with a screening of *The Trolley, Superhuman
Body: World of Medical Marvels, Wingsuit Flyers, Arctic: Our Frozen Planet,
*and the newest addition to the lineup, *Space: The New Frontier*. Regular
admission prices apply at all IMAX® Victoria screenings during Community
Days.
January 9 through 13 is also Letter Writing Week
<https://www.royalbcmuseum.bc.ca/visit/events/calendar/event/letter-writing-week-1>
at the Royal BC Museum. We provide the paper, pens, envelopes and even the
stamps—you write the letter. Stop by our letter writing station on the 3rd
floor mezzanine between 12 to 3 PM to reacquaint yourself with the lost art
of letter writing.
Lastly, start the new year with a moment of stillness and reflection
<https://www.royalbcmuseum.bc.ca/learn/onsite-learning-programs/adults/intention>
throughout our galleries from January 6 to 19. Discover self-guided
wellness stations designed for mindfulness and intention, including
gratitude exercises, poetry writing, breathwork and more as part of the
wellness getaway happening across Victoria organized by Tourism Victoria
<https://www.tourismvictoria.com/intention-wellness-getaway>.
Donations gathered during Community Days help fund the museum’s vast range
of operations, including creating online learning programs and events,
collecting specimens from across BC, digitizing historical photographs and
documents, conserving artifacts and more.

*About the Royal BC Museum: *The Royal BC Museum, which includes BC
Archives, IMAX® Victoria and PARC Campus, is one of the oldest continually
operating museums in Canada. A centre of learning and research, it strives
to broaden our understanding of British Columbia through collections,
exhibitions, outreach and community engagement. The museum celebrates the
province’s diverse landscapes and the lives of the people who live here,
enables research and knowledge sharing that advances our understanding of
our world, and provides a dynamic place for discussion and reflection.
IMAX® Victoria delivers educational and entertaining experiences that
accompany the learning journey the museum offers.
The Royal BC Museum is located on the traditional territories of the
Lekwungen peoples, known today as the Songhees and Xʷsepsəm (Esquimalt
Nation). We acknowledge and respect the history of Indigenous peoples, who
are our partners in museum matters and community alike.
