The AABC invites you to join us for new professional development
opportunities in 2026!
Registration is now open for two workshops on digitization hosted by the
AABC and presented by Sarah Story. Story is a Manitoba-based archivist who
has practical experience in developing and managing digitization and
digital preservation programs and projects in community and heritage
settings. She is the Archives Advisor for the Association for Manitoba
Archives (AMA).
*‘Print to Pixel’: An Introduction to Digitization *
Date: Wednesday, February 4, 2026 (9:00am - 12:00pm PST)
This introductory workshop covers the fundamentals of digitizing print
materials and planning archival digitization projects. Participants will
learn the purpose of digitization, project planning basics, and an
end-to-end digitization process - from selecting materials to applying
standards, workflows, and preparing digital assets for access. The workshop
is geared at archivists, community heritage workers, and volunteers with
little or limited experience and knowledge of digitization.
*‘Bit by bit’: Getting started with Digital Preservation and Managing
Digital Objects*
Date: Wednesday, February 11, 2026 (9:00am - 12:00pm PST)
This introductory workshop covers digital preservation fundamentals and
practical first steps for assessing and managing digital assets for
long-term access. Participants will learn the functions of digital
preservation and how to understand, document, protect, monitor, and
maintain their digital materials. Designed for archivists, community
heritage workers, and volunteers with little experience in digital
preservation - or those feeling overwhelmed – this session will help
clarify priorities and identify achievable first steps toward a digital
preservation program.
The cost for each workshop is $90.00 (AABC members); $135.00 (non-members).
