In this exciting role, you will be supporting a research project on the historic contributions and contemporary presence of racialized families and people within Burnaby. This position involves a variety of work related to research, community interviews, and the identification and development of exhibits related to local heritage. By actively seeking out and pursuing new community sources on this theme, you will create historical records and present the findings to both internal and external stakeholders.
Qualifications include completion of Grade 12, supplemented by university courses related to the work. Some related experience in collection and identification work in a museum, art gallery, library, or similar institution; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Courses in Anthropology or History would be considered an asset, as would experience in racialized community research. This role is well suited to individuals with high attention to detail and those who are comfortable building trust and relationships in the community. Strong interpersonal skills, a collaborative approach, and an outgoing personality are key for success. Other attributes include the ability to deal effectively with a variety of internal and external contacts. Proficiency in at least one of the following languages is required: Amharic, Tagalog, Punjabi, Korean, Spanish, or Farsi. A valid Driver’s License for the Province of British Columbia is required. Please note that a Police Information Check may be required for this position.
Pay Rate: $31.97 per hour + 12% in lieu of benefits (2024 Rates)
Location: Burnaby Village Museum
Hours of Work: Hours and shifts are dependent on operational requirements. Shifts are scheduled on an as-needed basis between the hours of 9:00 AM - 4:30 PM and may require occasional evenings and weekends.
