Temporary Exhibition Coordinator Employment Contract
White Rock Museum & Archives
6 weeks (30 hours a week)
With the possibility of increased hours or extension.
Start Date: October 1, 2024
End Date: November 12, 2024

Job Summary:
The White Rock Museum and Archives Society is pleased to announce an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Contract Temporary Exhibitions Coordinator. In this role, you will report directly to the Director of the White Rock Museum and Archives. Your primary responsibilities will include overseeing the deinstallation and packing of the current exhibition, "Shenanigans," managing loans, and ensuring the proper housing of artefacts. Additionally, you will be tasked with the installation of the pre-existing/created exhibition, Remembrance Day, which includes outreach components.
We welcome your initiative in proposing enhancements to the existing exhibit.

As part of your duties, you will collaborate closely with Museum staff and City of White Rock personnel to ensure smooth and successful exhibition transitions. You will play a vital role in our collections management process, ensuring that artefacts are returned to their designated storage spaces and that records are meticulously updated.

Our museum is situated in the City's historic train station building, right next to the ocean, offering a unique and inspiring working environment. We look forward to the possibility of you bringing your expertise and enthusiasm to our team.


Key Responsibilities:

  *   Condition reports artefacts.
  *   Coordinates the return of loaned artefacts and ephemera.
  *   Updates the collections management database (past perfect)
  *   Prepares the gallery for exhibition.
  *   Deinstalls exhibitions
  *   Coordinates and installs new exhibits.
  *   Writes interpretive signage.
  *   Obtains quotes for fabrication of exhibit components including but not limited to interpretive panels, graphic design, artefact mounts etc.
  *   Handles and moves artefacts safely.
  *   Liaise with staff and community.
  *   Provides regular updates to the White Rock Museum & Archives Director.
  *   Adheres to museum policy and conservation practices as they impact exhibitions.

Candidate Profile and Qualifications:

  *   University degree or post-secondary program in museum studies, history or a relevant field.
  *   Minimum of 1 year working in exhibitions in a museum, art gallery, heritage site or equivalent institution.
  *   Consideration may be given to an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  *   Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of artefact handling in a museum environment.
  *   Experience updating and creating reports in collections management databases.
  *   Exceptional organizational and time management skills.
  *   Exceptional oral and written interpersonal communication skills, marked by professionalism, teamwork, and courtesy.
