We are excited to announce that the Friends of the BC Archives is expanding our Speaker Series lineup to include more interactive elements and hands-on workshops! Our friend Carla-Jean Stokes will host our first workshop. You may remember her from our Heritage Week takeover this past spring, and we are happy to have her back to share more of her expertise!
Join Carla-Jean Stokes for a workshop that will draw on photographs from the Seaforth Highlanders of Canada Museum & Archives collection to help participants understand First World War photographs' origins, context, and materiality in public and private collections. The workshop will also offer tips and tricks for preserving photographs, regardless of budget.
Carla-Jean Stokes has aasters degrees in history and photographic preservation and collections management. She specializes in the history and materials of First World War photographs, and has a forthcoming (July 2025) book entitled The Taking of Vimy Ridge: First World War Photographs of William Ivor Castle (Wilfrid Laurier University Press). She has also contributed to magazines like Legion and Canada's History.

BC Archives Engagement Survey
Make sure to have your voice heard! The Royal BC Museum is in the midst of an extensive engagement process to collaboratively envision the museum's future, ensuring it reflects the priorities and perspectives of all people in British Columbia. This includes perspectives on the future of the provincial archives, which will be moving to the PARC Campus (Provincial Archives, Research and Collections) being built in Colwood, BC in 2026. The BC Archives wants to hear from people across BC about what matters most when it comes to a museum and archives that truly reflects all of us. Your voice is key as we reimagine the provincial archives' role in our province.
