Remembrance Talk: A Canadian Hero Remembered

Saturday, November 2, 2024 1:00 p.m. 2:00 p.m.
POMO Museum 2734 Murray Street Port Moody, BC, V3H 1X2 Canada

Come discover the story of Lt. Lawrence A. Goodship, the quintessential “right hand man” and unsung Canadian hero. He volunteered to leave the railroads of BC to serve his newly adopted country in the trenches of France. He was wounded in the first wave storming Vimy Ridge, 1917, decorated for bravery as he assisted Maj. George Pearkes as he won the Victoria Cross at Passchendaele,1917, and decorated again for gallantry assisting Capt. John MacGregor in his winning of the Victoria Cross at Cambrai, 1918. Never in the limelight, this unassuming warrior returned to Canada quietly taking up the position of Post Master for Port Moody and, as with so many Canadian heroes, he remained largely silent about the trauma and his bravery.

Join with Brian McConaghy, a forensic scientist, researcher and amateur historian as he tracks Lawernce Goodship through the stacks of the National Archives and on to the fields of Belgium and France, revealing previously unidentified battle photographs, events and locations as he follows in the footsteps of a Canadian hero.

This is a free event with limited seating (45). There is no ticket reservation and we encourage everyone to attend.
