[BCMA] The Suitcase Project mini-exhibition at Steveston Museum and Post Office

Richmond, BC - The Suitcase Project<https://stevestonheritage.ca/things-to-do/the-suitcase-project-in-steveston/https:/suitcaseproject.ca/about> is a traveling exhibition by Kayla Isomura in collaboration with the Nikkei National Museum and Cultural Centre<https://centre.nikkeiplace.org/>. A mini-version is currently on display in the Japanese Fishermen's Benevolent Society Building at Steveston Museum and Post Office<https://stevestonheritage.ca/visit/steveston-museum-post-office/> (3811 Moncton Street, Richmond) until April 21, 2024. Admission is free.

The mini-exhibit explores cultural identity and dispossession in the context of Japanese Canadian and Japanese American internment during the Second World War, and includes some personal stories and artefacts from past and present Steveston residents.
The Suitcase Project is the result of a project in which Isomura interviewed over 80 fourth- and fifth-generation Japanese Canadian and Japanese American descendants of families who were forcibly uprooted and interned during the Second World War. Isomura asked each participant: What would you pack if you were given a moment's notice before being forcibly uprooted from your home?
