Darshan Singh Sangha, also known as Darshan Singh Canadian, immigrated to
Canada in 1937 at the age of 19 and stayed here until 1947. He played an
active role in organizing workers in the IWA from 1941-1947. In addition to
union organizing, he was also involved in the struggle of the Indian
community in B.C. to regain the right to vote in Canada as well as India's
struggle to gain independence from the British.

The B.C. Labour Heritage Centre and the Hari Sharma Foundation will unveil a
bronze heritage plaque to recognize Sangha. Guests and speakers include
members of the Sangha family and Hermender Singh Kailley, BC Federation of
Labour. The event is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be
available following the plaque unveiling.

The plaque was produced by the B.C. Labour Heritage Centre's Plaques Around
the Province Project with sponsorship of the Hari Sharma Foundation. This
event is generously hosted by the Kaatza Station Museum, home of the I.W.A.
(International Woodworkers of America) Archives.
