[BCMA] Invitation to accessibility training with Parks Canada

Hello/Bonjour,

Please join these online training opportunities for Parks Canada staff and volunteers.  Each session has a maximum capacity of 30 attendees, so sign up right away!

First spots will go to those Parks Canada staff and volunteers who register, if there is room left over then cultural sector workers. All presentations will be held online using Teams at 2:00 PST. If you would like to take part in any of these trainings please do not hesitate to send an email to

  *   Viviane Forest also known as "The Falcon", is an inspiring bilingual speaker.
  *   Her presentations are genuine, and strong, and they motivate people to be active and reach for their goals and dreams.
  *   She has been in competitive sports since the age of four. Viviane played hockey and ringette and participated in karate, judo, track and field, cycling and provincial-level swimming.
  *   The one thing that differentiates Viviane from other athletes is that she has only 4% of normal vision, yet she has been able to excel and become a decorated athlete.
  *   At the Vancouver 2010 Paralympic Winter Games, Viviane won medals in all five alpine race disciplines: a Gold in the prestigious Downhill, three Silvers in Super-G, Slalom and Super Combined and a Bronze in Giant Slalom.

Jackie Silver is a registered dietitian who lives in Toronto and runs her own business, Jackie Silver Nutrition<https://jackiesilvernutrition.com/>, which focuses on serving the neurodivergent and disability communities. She is also an ambassador for the Rick Hansen Foundation where she shares her story and experiences living with a disability. In her spare time, Jackie loves to cook, bake, exercise, travel, journal, explore the city and spend time with family and friends. In Jackie's presentation you will hear her personal story of living with a disability and her recent experiences becoming an amputee. You will learn the do's and don'ts for interacting socially with disabled people in a respectful and appropriate manner. There will also be time for a Q&A at the end.
Rod Bitz

Spinal Cord Injury BC

      Sustaining a spinal cord injury in his late teens Rod has lived his adult life as a quadriplegic.  His experiences involve decades of volunteering, working and recreation within the disability community.   Starting with a decade at the City of Surrey in recreation and community development.  His focus was on providing fitness and recreation for persons with a disability.  Then with the Disability Foundation and SCI BC as a mentor and peer coordinator, Rod has provided engagement, support and social activities to persons with a physical activity.  Rod has worn several hats with BC Wheelchair Sports as an athlete, volunteer and employee.   Rod holds a RHFAC designation from the Rick Hansen Foundation and continues to utilize the Accessibility assessment training today with SCI BC.   He is a champion for full accessibility and inclusion for all persons with a disability.
