CRKN is seeking passionate and qualified candidates to join our Canadiana Content Sub-Committee (CCSC).

The Canadian Research Knowledge Network (CRKN) is a non-profit consortium dedicated to advancing interconnected, sustainable access to the world’s research and to Canada’s documentary heritage content. We deliver value to academic libraries, heritage organizations, and knowledge seekers within Canada in the following ways:

  *   Represent our membership in large-scale licensing and content acquisition activities;
  *   Collaborate to expand and enrich the digital knowledge ecosystem in Canada and the world;
  *   Advocate for fair and sustainable access to public research and content;
  *   Support the digital infrastructure required to preserve and access critical Canadian content;
  *   Mobilize our membership to transform scholarly communications in Canada.

With the support of members<https://www.crkn-rcdr.ca/en/members> and stakeholders, CRKN identifies, describes, and digitizes documentary heritage to expand and improve the Canadiana<https://www.canadiana.ca/> collection, which contains over 19 million pages (96,000 titles) of digitized historical publications, including monographs, serials, and government publications. The collection is largely composed of materials published prior to 1921, including content digitized from the Canadian Institute for Historic Microreproductions (CIHM) microfiche series.
The role of the CCSC is to provide CRKN staff with guidance and recommendations for developing and enhancing the Canadiana collections and implementing the content development recommendations of the Heritage Content Priorities Task Group (HCPTG) Report. The CCSC is expected to provide guidance on the following, as outlined in the HCPTG report:

  *   Creating collection development strategies for Canadiana content including the development of a process for identifying, prioritizing, and adding new content;
  *   Ensuring that the collections embody the following principles:
     *   Representative: The Canadiana Collections will be developed to represent the geographic, socio-cultural, and linguistic diversity of Canada with a view to historically under-represented and marginalized voices and communities.
     *   Collaborative: The Canadiana Collections will be developed in close collaboration with CRKN members, stakeholders, and other partner organizations to ensure alignment of priorities and to avoid duplication of effort.
     *   Open Access: The Canadiana Collections will focus on open access content when possible, recognizing that some valued materials, for cultural reasons, may not be appropriate for open access.

Reporting to the Preservation and Access Committee (PAC), the CCSC advises the Heritage Services team within CRKN on the responsibilities listed above. It is anticipated that the CCSC will initially meet every two months and will eventually transition to meeting on an as-needed basis as HCPTG recommendations are implemented. Service on the CCSC is voluntary and non-remunerative.

The PAC invites nominations for:

  *   One (1) current member of the PAC to act as Chair
  *   One (1) member with expertise working with Indigenous archival materials
  *   One (1) to three (3) librarians, archivists, or curators with collection development experience from CRKN’s member or associate member institutions, who   shall, when possible, reflect the diversity of CRKN membership (small, medium, and large institutions, and regional diversity)
  *   One (1) to three (3) scholars or researchers from CRKN’s member or associate member institutions who use Canadiana content in their research
  *   One (1) independent scholar or researcher at a non-CRKN member institution who uses Canadiana content in their research

Sub-committee members serve for a term of two years, with the possibility of renewal for a second two-year term. A rough estimate of the annual time commitment required for serving on the group can be calculated as follows:
Meeting every 2 months

1 hour prep time per meeting

Individual work and communication with CRKN staff
6 hours
Total commitment (each year)
24 hours

The sub-committee will be supported by a CRKN staff member as designated by the Executive Director.
Individuals may choose to self-nominate or to nominate another individual provided all pertinent details are provided as described below. Completed nomination forms should be sent to CRKN c/o Jason Friedman (jfriedman at crkn.ca<mailto:jfriedman at crkn.ca> ) no later than April 1st, 2022, and including the following information:


  *   Contact information for the nominee;
  *   An indication of their willingness to serve;
  *   Brief biographical details and relevant work experience to illustrate expertise in and enthusiasm for the work of the sub-committee;
  *   Name of the nominee’s immediate supervisor and assurance that this workload and time commitment meets with their approval.

Le Réseau canadien de documentation pour la recherche (RCDR) est un consortium sans but lucratif qui se consacre à l’avancement de l’accès interconnecté et durable aux recherches mondiales et au patrimoine documentaire canadien. Nous procurons une valeur aux bibliothèques universitaires, aux organisations patrimoniales et aux personnes en quête de savoir au Canada, et ce, de diverses manières :

  *   En représentant nos membres dans des activités d’octroi de licences et d’acquisition de contenus à grande échelle ;
  *   En collaborant pour élargir et enrichir l’écosystème numérique du savoir au Canada et dans le monde ;

Avec l’aide des membres<https://www.crkn-rcdr.ca/fr/membres> et parties prenantes, le RCDR repère, décrit et numérise le patrimoine documentaire qui est ajouté à la collection Canadiana<https://www.canadiana.ca/>. La collection Canadiana contient plus de 19 millions de pages (96 000 titres) de publications historiques numérisées, incluant des monographies, périodiques et publications gouvernementales. La collection est composée principalement de documents publiés avant 1921, numérisés des microfiches de l’Institut canadien de microreproductions historiques (ICMH).

Le SCCC, qui relève du Comité de préservation et d’accès, a pour mandat de fournir au personnel du RCDR des conseils sur l’enrichissement des collections de Canadiana et la mise en œuvre des recommandations du Groupe de travail sur les priorités du contenu patrimonial (GTPCP) en matière de développement de contenu. Le SCCC doit fournir des directives sur les éléments suivants, conformément au rapport du GTPCP :

  *   Élaborer des stratégies pour le développement de la collection Canadiana, incluant notamment un processus pour cibler, prioriser et ajouter du nouveau contenu
  *   Veiller à ce que les collections incarnent les principes suivants :
     *   Représentativité : Les collections de Canadiana seront enrichies de documents représentatifs de la diversité géographique, socioculturelle et linguistique du Canada avec une attention portée aux voix et aux communautés historiquement sous-représentées et marginalisées.
     *   Collaboration : Les collections de Canadiana seront développées en étroite collaboration avec les membres du RCDR, les parties prenantes et d’autres organisations partenaires pour garantir un bon alignement des priorités et éviter le dédoublement des efforts.
     *   Libre accès : Les collections de Canadiana se concentreront sur le libre accès lorsque c’est possible, sachant toutefois que des documents de valeur pourraient ne pas s’y prêter pour des raisons culturelles

Il est prévu que le SCCC se réunisse initialement tous les deux mois pour mettre en œuvre les recommandations du GTPCP. Par la suite, le sous-comité se réunira en fonction des besoins.

Membres :

  *   Un (1) membre actuel du CPA qui assure la présidence
  *   Un (1) membre ayant de l’expertise dans les documents d’archives autochtones
  *   Un (1) à trois (3) bibliothécaires, archivistes ou conservateurs ayant de l’expérience dans le développement de collections. Ces personnes doivent provenir d’établissements membres ou associés du RCDR et refléter autant que possible la diversité des membres du RCDR (petits, moyens et grands établissements ; diversité régionale)
  *   Un (1) à trois (3) universitaires ou chercheurs provenant d’établissements membres ou associés du RCDR qui utilisent le contenu de Canadiana pour leurs recherches
  *   Un (1) universitaire ou chercheur indépendant provenant d’un établissement non membre du RCDR qui utilise le contenu de Canadiana pour ses recherches

Les membres du sous-comité siègent pour un mandat de deux ans, avec la possibilité d’un renouvellement pour un deuxième mandat de deux ans. Une estimation de l’engagement annuel exigé pour siéger au sous-comité peut être calculée comme suit :

le personnel du RCDR

Le sous-comité bénéficiera de soutien du personnel du RCDR tel que désigné par la directrice générale. Le personnel peut aussi être appelé à participer à des réunions en tant que personne-ressource, selon les besoins.
