About The Exploration Place:
As the largest museum and science centre outside the lower mainland, The Exploration Place has taken a leadership role in the region and has offered quality programs and services for over two decades. The Exploration Place is a charitable organization with a mission to provide learning opportunities that foster an understanding of significant past and current issues shaping our community by linking experiences within the Regional District of Fraser-Fort George to the world in a unique, participatory Museum of regional history, science, and technology. You will be joining a team of enthusiastic and passionate individuals whose goal is to work together for the success of all departments and have fun doing it! Who are we looking for?
We are seeking a creative, enthusiastic, outgoing, motivated person with a passion for education, science, heritage, and culture. We are seeking someone comfortable presenting information to groups of all ages, both virtually and in-person, in a friendly, interactive, engaging, and professional manner. You are comfortable working with colleagues in different departments and are dedicated to taking the initiative to inspire people to learn more about science, technology, culture, and heritage. Everyone plays a role in our daily operations to help meet the shared goals of The Exploration Place.

You will be working under the direct supervision of the VP - Operations and in collaboration with the CEO and leadership team. You are detail-oriented, organized, complete tasks in a timely manner, and are independent yet flexible and collaborative.

What are the hours and benefits?
This is a permanent, full-time position. A regular workday is 8 hours, with a 30-minute unpaid lunch break. Occasional extended hours, weekends, and evenings for museum events will also be required.

After a 3-month probationary period, benefits include:

Job Summary:
The Education Officer develops and implements high-quality, educational front-line services to museum audiences on and offsite, as well as virtually. This includes school and community programs, with a focus on province-wide Tech-Up outreach programs in partnership with Science World. Tech-Up programming engages students and teachers in coding, computational thinking, and digital literacy skills with the initiative of reaching underserved students in BC's North. The Education Officer is also responsible for coordinating the Prince George Regional Heritage Fair.


The successful applicant will be responsible for the following:

  *   Using creative and innovative thinking while working with diverse ages in a non-traditional teaching and learning environment
  *   Collaborating with the VP - Operations to establish and evaluate program goals
  *   Acting as our liaison with Science World, collaborating and communicating with Science World staff regarding programs and key initiatives of our strategic partnership
  *   Delivering existing Tech-Up programming throughout the region, often involving travel (travel expenses are covered by The Exploration Place/Science World)
  *   Evaluating, revising, and developing educational programs and program content related to the BC curriculum
  *   Delivering educational programs to classrooms, community groups, and the community at large
  *   Collaborating in school and public program evaluation, revision, and development
  *   Booking public programs and assisting with collecting and entering community engagement data and statistics while keeping accurate and up-to-date program registration information
  *   Facilitating and leading a collaborative group of individuals and organizations, connecting learners with mentors and relevant partners
  *   Encouraging learners to embrace curiosity, failure, fun, and discovery, with a sensitivity to the diversity of the region and the needs of under-served communities and groups
  *   Preparing, organizing, and maintaining public programming supplies
  *   Creating and maintaining relationships with teachers, community event coordinators, and other stakeholders and communicating in a respectful, timely, and effective fashion
  *   Planning, coordinating, and delivering the annual Prince George Regional Heritage Fair in conjunction with a committee of cultural organization volunteers
  *   Educating yourself on our galleries and exhibits, both permanent and temporary, and integrating the subject matter into public programming when appropriate
  *   Development, delivery, and supervision of day or week-long camps (with support)
  *   Supporting other museum departments as required
  *   Assisting with museum special events as required
  *   Representing the museum with the utmost integrity, exemplifying the values and mission of our organization

Knowledge, skills, and abilities we are looking for:

  *   Canadian citizenship or permanent resident status
  *   Possess a minimum of Grade 12 graduation diploma or equivalent
  *   Excellent oral communication and interpersonal skills
  *   Proven ability to speak and perform before audiences of varying sizes and compositions and to lead round table discussions of diverse people
  *   Friendly, outgoing personality; excited to meet, engage, and facilitate
  *   Strong ability to think logically, methodically, and creatively
  *   Experience working in teams and an interest in building leadership skills
  *   Previous experience and/or interest in working with youth
  *   Sound knowledge of, interest in, and willingness to expand understanding of science and heritage
  *   Self-motivated, energetic, forward-thinking, and creative with strong attention to detail
  *   Must have and be willing to use your own transportation when necessary
  *   Willingness to travel around the region as well as to Vancouver as required
  *   Ability to handle stressful situations while working in a fast-paced, customer-orientated facility, in cooperation with other staff and departments
  *   Ability to work closely and communicate respectfully with The Exploration Place team at large
  *   Possess excellent time management, organization, and multi-tasking skills
  *   Be familiar and comfortable with software, including but not limited to MS365 (Outlook, Word, Excel)
  *   Be familiar and comfortable with communication and collaboration tools such as Zoom and SLACK
  *   Possess a stable internet connection and the ability to work remotely if necessary
  *   Must show flexibility when asked to perform other tasks as needed
  *   Must be dependable and committed to carrying out your responsibilities to the best of your ability
  *   Ability to work evenings, holidays, and weekends as scheduled
  *   Must be willing to present a BC Vaccine Card showing full COVID-19 vaccination and abide by all COVID-19 regulations. If over time, Health Canada updates its definition of "fully vaccinated" (such as requiring "booster" vaccine doses), employees will be expected to comply to maintain fully vaccinated status
  *   Must be willing to submit to and pass a criminal record check

The following will be considered an asset for this position:

  *   Background and/or interest in computational thinking, coding, and digital skill development
  *   Background and/or experience in science, technology, or heritage fields
  *   Background and/or experience in the performing arts
  *   Experience working with the public
  *   Experience working in the arts and culture or non-profit sectors
