New opening at Heritage BC for a 10-week summer position as a Heritage Resources Research and Support Student.

Student Temporary Full-time; Funded through Young Canada Works
Remote work.  35 hours a week.  10-week placement
Hourly wage:  $22.50  
Ideally a 4th year or graduate student
Start Date:  Week of June 13, 2022.  Some flexibility.  

Heritage BC is a service organization dedicated to supporting people of British Columbia who champion the preservation and conservation of all forms of cultural heritage.  We achieve this by developing awareness, appreciation and respect for BC’s built and intangible traditions. 

The Heritage Program Researcher and Support person will take the lead on two digital projects designed to advance heritage advocacy, and action.  The Heritage Program Coordinator will also lend support as requested to the Heritage Program Coordinator and other Heritage BC team members in their administration and management of key programs.  The primary outputs of this summer position support Heritage BC’s goals to achieve the following: 

To be able to be more responsive to citizen heritage advocates seeking information and resources to help them understand their next actions.  This will be achieved by researching and assessing heritage related online resources housed on various websites including Heritage BCs to determine where gaps are and by creating yes/no decision flow charts based on stakeholder needs. It will involve integrating the resource on our website and promoting it digitally.
To increase Heritage BC’s digital presence through the creation of original content related to the resources and our member organizations. This work will include research, cataloging the organization’s resources, developing tools to raise awareness and making them more user friendly.

The Heritage Program Researcher and Support will have a career interest and education background in cultural resource management, community development, heritage conservation, history or another relevant discipline, along with some experience working in the heritage sector. They will have excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.  Candidates must also demonstrate strong skills in technology platforms in order to be successful with managing their work outputs in a virtual/remote office setting.  The candidate will provide their own computer, internet and office space suitable to conduct business.  Ideally, they will be a student at a BC Institution or a resident of British Columbia as well as a student who meets eligibility criteria for Young Canada Works.

The Heritage Program Researcher and Support will be supervised primarily by the Heritage Program Coordinator, but the Executive Director will also provide additional leadership necessary to ensure success.  The candidate will work collaboratively with all Heritage BC team members.
