Overview
The City of Richmond is currently looking for enthusiastic, responsible individuals who have excellent customer service, communication and interpersonal skills. You will enjoy working with the public and delivering educational programs and tours for all age groups at Britannia Shipyards National Historic Site and the Richmond Museum.
Examples of key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
* Delivery of school programs and tours.
* Overseeing volunteers to assist in program and tour delivery.
* Preparing all educational materials and spaces for programs, including set-up and clean-up.
* Assisting with the development of hands-on activities for use on tours and programs.
* Providing school program evaluations to teachers at the time of the program.
* Cash handling, balancing and reporting.
* Opening and closing of museum buildings.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
* Ability to work both independently and interdependently while exercising sound judgment and initiative.
* Ability to interact with and lead both small and large groups of various ages.
* Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions.
* Ability to be knowledgeable, personable and skilled at maintaining control of the interpretative conversation while creatively encouraging willing visitor involvement.
* Ability to interpret, explain, educate, and inspire visitors.
* Strong problem solving and communication skills including ability to make decisions independently.
* Ability to courteously and effectively deal with the public in providing information and assistance.
* Ability to work well under pressure and deal with stressful situations with professionalism.
* Knowledge and skills in using Microsoft Office programs such as Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint.
* Knowledge of interpretive techniques, museum principles and local history.
* Ability to use REDMS or a similar record management system is preferred.
* Ability to successfully pass a Police Information Check.
* Ability to speak a second language is an asset.
* Ability to carry supply bins up to 25lbs.
Qualifications and Experience:
* Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent supplemented by related experience in education, a museum, heritage site or cultural setting. An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
* Current Occupational First Aid Level 1 certification or higher is required.
* Heritage and/or teaching or tour guide experience is preferred.
Working Conditions:
* Duties are performed in a heritage environment. Must be comfortable standing for long periods of time. May be outdoors, in all weather conditions. May encounter upset or unpleasant customers.

Salary Range:

$20.94 per hour, plus 12% in lieu of benefits

Hours of Work:

This is an auxiliary position with no guarantee of shifts or hours. Hours assigned will be variable, depending on operational needs.
