Museum of Vancouver is currently seeking students to work at our museum on a Summer Jobs Canada project. The positions are scheduled to start on May  13th and hours are flexible. JOB OPPORTUNITY (Canada Summer Jobs)

Position:  A Seat at the Table Museum Interpreter
Reports to:  Director of Collections & Exhibitions
Pay Rate:  $17.50 per hour
Closing Date:  May 5, 2021
Start Date:  May 13, 2021

MOV is seeking seasonal personnel to join our team in support of its exhibition A Seat at the Table. This position is funded with the support of Canada Summer Jobs.

Museum Interpreters, in tandem with MOV Visitor Experience staff, provide the first point of contact with MOV visitors. Knowledgeable and engaging, they play a vital part in ensuring a rewarding visitor experience.
Duties include:

·        Greet and orient visitors entering A Seat at the Table (SAT) gallery space

·        Provide information about the SAT project and SAT partners and upcoming public programs

·        Facilitate learning experience of museum visitors by interacting with them and demonstrating use of interactive exhibition components

·        Support and conduct visitor studies

·        Support Visitor Experience personnel in keeping the MOV galleries a safe environment by following safety protocols and assisting with light cleaning and replenishing of supplies

·        Liaise with Visitor Experience, Learning and Curatorial staff

Youth Eligibility Requirements and Qualifications:

  *   Be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment
  *   Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment
  *   Have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations
  *   Must enjoy working with the public and able to communicate effectively with broad range of public, including children and adults
  *   Must be reliable and punctual
  *   Strong verbal and written communication skills in English and in Cantonese and/or Mandarin

  *   Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build positive working relationships with MOV staff
  *   High School diploma, with additional museum or gallery training, hospitality, tourism or related subject training or equivalent training and experience

Hours:  Total hours are flexible, and may range from 21-35 per week, depending on availability. Shifts are usually during daytime hours, taking place Wednesday to Sunday.
