Description
Located within the traditional unceded territory of the sylix people, Westbank First Nation (WFN) is a progressive and prosperous self-governing First Nation. Position Summary
Under the direction of the Sncəwips Cultural and Operations Administrator, the primary duties of the Summer Student will be to provide administration support services to the Sncəwips Heritage Museum (the “Museum”). It’s preferable that candidates have a keen interest in art, history and indigenous studies and are pursuing a career in that area. A valid BC Driver’s License is required as there may be travel between WFN office locations. Secondary duties, and as directed by the Manager of IGA, may involve providing administrative support to the IGA office to cover staff leaves, job shadowing, and other research projects as required.

Specific Responsibilities

  *   Assists staff in providing a variety of administrative support and clerical assistance including answering the phone, greeting guests, ordering supplies, and maintaining an organized reception area
  *   Assists in scanning and maintaining the filing system; hard copy or electronic
  *   Co-ordinates and assists with special projects and events as required
  *   Researches information on a variety of heritage/cultural subjects for the Museum as directed by the Sncəwips Cultural and Operations Administrator
  *   Inputs artefact data and information into a digital database for the Museum
  *   Performs artefact assessment including photographs and condition reporting
  *   May involve some travel to attend meetings or events to gain practical knowledge and skills in First Nation governance and title & rights issues for the IGA department
  *   Performs other duties and responsibilities as required
  *   Performs all duties and responsibilities in accordance with the Westbank First Nation policies, standards and procedures
  *   Maintains confidentiality on all matters relating to the affairs of WFN

Qualifications
Education, Training, and Certification

  *   Minimum Grade 12 or equivalent
  *   Must be a registered post-secondary student, returning to studies in fall 2021
  *   Prefer that post-secondary studies include courses in Art, History, Indigenous Studies, and/or Political Science and Business Administration
Experience

  *   Prefer one to two years of experience in preparing correspondence/ documents using Word, Excel, Outlook, Publisher and Access
Other Qualifications, Knowledge, and Skills

  *   Friendly, personable, and professional
  *   Strong computer skills
  *   Strong organizational skills
  *   Strong attention to detail
  *   Ability to set priorities
  *   Ability to compose letters
  *   Ability to work in a fast paced environment
  *   Must have the ability to work independently or as part of a team
